Beat The Odds With Liverpool vs. Arsenal This Weekend
Leaders Liverpool are once again involved in the match of the weekend when they travel to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. This and all Premier League games are available in our WPT Global Sportsbook for you to place your wagers.
The Reds came through their toughest test of the season so far in defeating Chelsea 2-1 last week, maintaining their one point lead at the top of the table. Arsenal are no longer their closest challengers though, a disappointing first reverse of the season at Bournemouth seeing them fall four points off the pace.
Despite that defeat, and the suspension of key defender William Saliba, the Gunners are favourites to take the three points on Sunday and close the gap on Arne Slot’s outfit.
Arsenal have been reduced to 10 men three times in eight games this season, and have dropped points in each game. In the games where they’ve managed to keep 11 men on the pitch, they’ve won five out of five.
Injuries to key midfielders Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard have derailed Arsenal’s impressive early season form, and shrewd bettors will be waiting on team news before deciding who to back in this mouthwatering counter.
The Premier League gameweek starts on Friday night with an East Midlands derby between Leicester and Nottingham Forest.
Both sides are in decent form - the Foxes coming off back-to-back victories against Bournemouth and Southampton, and Forest having lost only one game all season, against Fulham.
Leicester have scored in every game they’ve played this season, but might find that record a difficult one to extend against Forest, who have the second best defensive record in the EPL, shipping only six goals in their eight games, second only to leaders Liverpool.
They’ve only averaged a goal a game over that period too however, so a low scoring encounter could be in the offing.
Chelsea looks to bounce back after their defeat at Anfield when they welcome Newcastle to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
While the Blues did succumb to a 2-1 defeat away at leaders Liverpool last weekend, they dominated for long periods and continue to impress under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The patchy form that has plagued Newcastle’s start to the season showed no sign of ending with a 1-0 home defeat against Brighton last week. Though they dominated for long periods, Eddie Howe’s side looked short on confidence and a cutting edge in front of goal.
It’s 12 years since the Geordies took three points away from a visit to west London, and it’s hard to see anything other than an extension of that record this weekend.
