Understanding Action in Poker
When players talk about “action” in poker, they’re describing two separate things: the betting activity happening within a hand, and also the moment it becomes your turn to make a poker decision. To understand this clearly, you first need to know how the action actually moves around the table.
In poker, the action always moves clockwise and starts with the player left of the dealer button. When it’s your turn, you must choose how to respond based on the current state of the game, which is a combination of your hand strength and your position. Because the action is now on you, you must then decide whether to call, raise, or fold based on your cards and your strategy.
