Will New United Boss Amorim Start With A Win?

A new era for Manchester United begins on Sunday afternoon when Ruben Amorim takes charge of his first match as head coach. Despite only having his full squad under his tutelage for two days due to the international break, the former Sporting Lisbon boss is expected to install his preferred 3-4-3 formation from the start as United travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich

How the same players who have struggled so badly under Erik ten Hag, seeing them head into the weekend in a lowly 13th spot in the EPL table, react to a new system remains to be seen, but they are odds on to start the new chapter with victory.

United are 1.62 to take the three points, with a home win 4.50 and the draw at 4.15. Indeed the markets reckon United are more likely to win by 3+ goals (4.40) than hosts Ipswich are to claim any kind of victory.

Those who expect Amorim to start with a solid base may be tempted by the 3.10 for United to win to nil. It is 30 years since Ipswich last beat United in the League - Steve Sedgley scoring the odd goal in five - but having won their first game of the season last time out, away at Spurs, the Tractor Boys will be confident they can spoil Amorim’s big day.

United’s Manchester rivals City are chomping at the bit to get back into action, having lost four straight games before the international break. Spirits were lifted this week when manager Pep Guardiola signed a new two-year contract, but it is on the pitch City need an upturn in fortunes if they are to extend their run of four straight Premier League titles.

Liverpool start the weekend five points clear in the title race, but City fans can rightly point out that in each of the past four seasons they have come back from five-point deficits to take title glory. City are 1.47 to beat Spurs on Saturday evening, with Tottenham - who have already knocked City out of the League Cup this season - 5.40 to claim all three points, and the draw 4.75. The two teams played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Etihad last season, but anything less than getting back to winning ways will be disastrous for the champions.

The EPL weekend starts with Enzo Maresca returning to Leicester with the Chelsea team he left them for in the summer. Despite home advantage, Leicester are rated big dogs in this one, with a home win 5.90, the draw 4.50 and Chelsea big favourites at 1.46 for the win.

Despite back-to-back 1-1 Premier League draws with Manchester United and Arsenal, Chelsea arrive at the King Power Stadium in third place in the EPL table. After successive Premier League victories a month ago, Leicester’s form has dipped alarmingly, with thumpings at Manchester United in the League and League Cup following a home defeat to local rivals Nottingham Forest.

A point for a 1-1 draw at fellow promoted team Ipswich is all they’ve picked up since those wins against Bournemouth and Southampton, and the visit of his predecessor would be the perfect time for Steve Cooper to get the Foxes back to winning ways.
