Beat the Odds in This Week’s Football and EPL Games

With yet another international break on the horizon, make the most of this weekend’s English Premier League (EPL) fixtures by hitting the WPT® Global Sportsbook. Next week, we’ll feature football from across the pond with NFL games.

Having failed to score in the Premier League for the first time this season last weekend at Newcastle, the league’s top scorer Erling Haaland will be itching to get back among the goals when Manchester City face Fulham at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon.

The Norwegian robot was back among the goals in the midweek Champions League stroll that saw City win 4-0 at Slovan Bratislava, and will be looking to add to his haul of 10 goals in the first six games of the EPL season.

Fulham arrive in Manchester in the top six themselves, having gone five games unbeaten since their opening weekend defeat across the city at Old Trafford. Having lost 13 straight Premier League games to City, however, it would take a superhuman effort to avoid defeat here, bearing in mind they were hammered 5-1 and 4-0 by the champions last season.

Leaders Liverpool (1.45) face a tricky-looking trip to Crystal Palace (6.10) in the early game on Saturday, having come through a tough Champions League test against Bologna on Wednesday night.

With such a quick turnaround, Arne Slot may well be forced to rotate his squad, giving winless Palace a chance to cause a shock.

The Reds have won eight of their last nine games at Selhurst Park, but Palace will point out they have lost only one of their last four games with Liverpool, and enjoyed a 1-0 win at Anfield in April that all but ended Jurgen Klopp’s dreams of a second Premier League title in his final season.

Palace have struggled after an impressive second half of last season under Oliver Glasner, but the combination of a raucous home crowd and a full week’s preparation while their opponents faced a tough Champions League game could be the recipe for a shock first Eagles win of the season.
Additional Games

On Sunday all eyes will be on Villa Park, where Aston Villa (2.25) face Manchester United (2.78) in a crunch encounter.

United are seemingly never far from their next crisis, at least since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, and that’s the case again after a chastening 3-0 home defeat against Spurs last Sunday. While the scoreline was a shocker, the performance was even worse.

Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the first half - a decision since overturned, so he is free from suspension for this one - but United were as bad if not worse with 11 men on the pitch as Spurs ran rings around them in front of a frustrated Old Trafford crowd.

They have won three straight against Villa, however, including doing the double over them last season, but a repeat of that looks very unlikely on recent form. While United languish in the bottom half of the table, Villa are again in the top five, having suffered only one defeat all season.

The sum of United’s successes this season are wins against Fulham, Southampton and League One Barsley in the EFL Cup, and anything other than an against-the-odds three points on Sunday ramps up the pressure on under-fire boss Eric ten Hag, who looks like a dead man walking.

Other Premier League games this weekend include:

  • Arsenal vs Southampton
  • Brentford vs Wolves
  • Leicester vs Bournemouth
  • West Ham vs Ipswich
  • Everton vs Newcastle
  • Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest
  • Brighton v Spurs
